Every coach should have an email list.
I know that sounds very black and white, and some people will disagree with me. But hear me out …
If you’re relying on a social media platform for all of your business, you run the risk of it going the way of the dodo (cough, MySpace, cough) leaving you starting over somewhere else from scratch.
That’s not a good place to be. That’s close to a disaster for someone with an online coaching business.
When you have an email list, you have control and aren’t putting your fate in the hands of a third party.
For example, I love Facebook groups and I think they’re great for coaches to have. However, Mark Zuckerberg could roll out of bed tomorrow morning and decide that he doesn’t want FB to have groups anymore (highly unlikely, but you just never know).
With an email list, you’re insulated from outside forces.
A few things are holding people back when it comes to email lists:
1) They can’t figure out the tech side of it, so they never get it set up.
2) They have a list but they can’t seem to grow it.
(A third would be that they don’t email it often enough. I’m a proponent of daily emails, but I’ll leave that topic for another day).
