This week I had a Skype call with someone who’s starting to get some good traction with his coaching business.
What’s happening to him is the same thing that happens with anyone who’s enjoying any success: the haters are crawling out of the woodwork to take shots at him.
The interesting thing with my friend’s situation is that some of those haters are actually very accomplished people and doing really well with their businesses. Yet they climbed down from their spot at the top of the mountain to kick at someone making his way up it.
This pokes a hole in my theory that all haters are unaccomplished people who are bitter with their lot in life.
I guess haters come in all shapes and sizes, with varying sizes of bank accounts.
How do you explain successful people attacking those who are on their way up?
It’s probably them being territorial and feeling threatened at the thought of sharing some of that room at the top of the mountain with someone else.
I’ve dealt with my share of haters, and I have a system for handling them that has given me tremendous peace of mind and has also let me help others while I’m dealing with those who attack me.
Spoiler alert: my advice IS NOT “hug your haters”.
