It’s easy to get stressed out when you’re in business for yourself.  Let’s face it, despite advances in technology, being an entrepreneur isn’t easy in 2015 (those advances have made it more difficult in some regards – namely distractions and the loss of any hope for a work/life balance!).

I’m a pretty tightly-wound guy at times when it comes to my business.  I take it seriously, but a word has been popping up in a lot of my interviews with guests on Natural Born Coaches … FUN!

“Fun” isn’t always the first word that comes to mind when you think of running a business … with the long hours, employee/customer issues, unexpectedly delays and daily bumps in the road.  But the guests that I’ve been interviewing have talked of the importance of having fun to give you the energy to get through everything that comes with entrepreneurship.

I should have known that “having fun” would become a common theme on the podcast because it was reinforced with my very first guest.  That coach, Hugh Liddle, is known for wearing a red cap at all times (even in the shower, I suspect, but I don’t want to find out!). And others have reminded me of this important three letter word:  Justin Stratton is called “The Awesomeness Coach”, and his ability to have fun with his coaching business was apparent the minute I started talking with him.  Rivers Corbett relishes life, and Sarah Newton proudly proclaims that she is a Dragon Slayer.  All of these coaches have incorporated fun into their businesses, and have been more successful because of it.

I’m not saying that you should be having fun 24/7 – that’s a pretty hard goal to hit as an entrepreneur. But make sure you sprinkle enough of it along the way to motivate you in your journey!
