When it comes to building a successful coaching business, you don’t need a lot of clients.
If you’re charging what you should be charging, you’ll only have to work with a few people to do well.
But there’s currently a fog over the coaching world on this.
I have conversations with coaches every day, and many have a fear over chasing away potential clients by increasing their fees.
You have to flip your thinking from “Are there enough people out there who would hire me?” to “There’s only one of me … I’m in short supply!”
In his book “The Obstacle Is The Way”, Ryan Holiday writes about George Clooney having to change his perspective when he first arrived in Hollywood.
In his early years in Tinseltown, Clooney spent a lot of time being rejected and he blamed the system for not recognizing how good he was:
“Everything changed for Clooney when he tried a new perspective. He realized that casting is an obstacle for producers, too – they need to find somebody, and they’re all hoping that the next person to walk in the room is the right somebody.
Auditions were a chance to solve their problem, not his.
From Clooney’s new perspective, he was that solution. He wasn’t going to be someone grovelling for a shot. He was someone with something special to offer.
He was the answer to their prayers, not the other way around. That was what he began projecting in his auditions – not exclusively his acting skills but that he was the man for the job. That he understood what the casting director and producers were looking for in a specific role and that he would deliver it in each and every situation, in preproduction, on camera, and during promotion …”
Think of yourself, the coach, as George Clooney.
And think of the potential clients as the producers – who needed Clooney more than he needed them.
Tell yourself that the people you talk with about your coaching would be crazy to pass up getting your help, since you’re a highly sought after commodity and there’s only one of you on this big blue ball floating through space.
There’s just a few days left to become a laser coaching client of mine at 50% off (deadline Sunday night). Grab the details here:
