HELPING COACHES GET MORE CLIENTS SINCE 2014!

Your choice of words

by | May 2, 2020 | Blog

Zig Ziglar once talked about the problem with alarm clocks.

He wasn’t criticizing their purpose, but rather the word “alarm”.

Zig figured that it was a bad way to start your day by waking up with something that has such a panicky, negative name and recommended that we change the name of the device to an “opportunity clock” instead.

It sounds like a small difference, but the words that we use matter and I call my clients out if I catch them using bad ones. For example, when they say:

“Sure, I guess I’ll try it …” (As Yoda said, “Do or do not, there is no try”

Or “We’ll see how it goes …” (that sounds wishy-washy and isn’t confident)

Once you identify the negative words and phrases that you use it’s easier to catch yourself and change course when they pop out of your mouth.

I’ve even heard of people putting rubber bands around their wrists and snapping them when they catch themselves saying bad things, so there’s an idea.

Anyways, back to “opportunity clocks” …

My Coaching Jungle Mastermind has an opening in one of the groups that meets at 9 am EST every Monday morning, so if you’re not an early riser you’ll have to set your opportunity clock to get up for it.

But the mastermind will give you the support and accountability you need to grow your coaching business, so it’ll be worth it.
