HELPING COACHES GET MORE CLIENTS SINCE 2014!

Why I’m not pro-choice

by | Oct 13, 2019 | Blog

No, this isn’t anything to do with the abortion debate … this is about “choice overload” and how it can hurt entrepreneurs.

A few days ago I was talking about the importance of keeping your offers simple and easy-to-digest, and came across a study that ties into that.

In “The Paradox of Choice”, Barry Schwartz shares an experiment about choosing jam in a grocery store, where one set of shoppers were given twenty-four flavours they could buy, and other shoppers were only given six choices of jam.

The results of this study were the shoppers that had just six choices bought 10x as much jam as the ones who had a wider array of options!

According to Schwartz, too many choices leads to “choice overload”, and that creates:

1) Anxiety and stress
2) Paralysis (out of fear of making the wrong choice)
3) Dissatisfaction (since people wonder if they should have made another choice)
4) Self-blame (for making the wrong choice)

When crafting your offers, remember that more choices doesn’t necessarily mean more sales (and will probably lead to the opposite).

I focus on a few core offerings to help coaches get more business, and you can see them here:
