Here’s a lesson from, of all places, blueberries.
There’s a brand of fruits and vegetables that sell in the grocery stores here called “Naturally Imperfect”.
I had to buy blueberries this week, and I was drawn to this brand.
Why?
Because they were open and honest that they’re not perfect.
It’s rare to see a person or company show any vulnerability nowadays. Everyone is trying to play it off like they’re without fault.
Take the coaching world, for example. Browse through a few websites and you’ll see coaches claiming that they can do everything short of walking on water (although there’s a good chance that a few are saying that by now).
They may not realize it, but this creates a wall between them and their prospects. Chances are the prospects aren’t perfect – they could be in a really bad spot and needing to hire a coach. How do you think they feel about coming across a person who puts himself or herself up on such a high pedestal?
I’m not suggesting that you run yourself into the ground talking about all of your faults. You don’t have to mention that you sometimes get spinach stuck in your teeth, or discuss that time when you peed your pants in grade one.
Going back to the blueberries, the brand manages to let us know about its great flavour and affordability:
“Natural Imperfect fruits and vegetables may not be picture perfect, but they always deliver the flavour you want – at exceptional value”
You can do the same.
Show some vulnerability, then talk up your good points.
Here’s my shot at that:
My 10 Clients In 90 Days program isn’t for everyone. It takes a lot of work, and if you don’t like being pushed then you won’t enjoy it. But if you want to learn the best way to get new coaching clients in a short window of time, check it out:
