Last night I got out to see Jerry Seinfeld, who came to my neck of the woods to do a performance.
I used to love watching Seinfeld back in high school and university, and it’s one of those shows that I find highly-watchable even 20 years after it went off the air.
It’s pretty good for being a “show about nothing” …
Besides being a fan of the humour, I like the show for a few other reasons:
First off, it went out on top.
Jerry didn’t overstay his welcome and keep the show on the air after it “jumped the shark”.
When the show ended in 1998, it was still going strong and hadn’t seen the drop in quality that other long-running shows experience (and 76 million people tuned into the final episode – not bad).
I also like that the show persevered and stayed alive in the early days when it looked like cancellation was guaranteed.
Seinfeld wasn’t exactly a runaway hit in the early days, and it struggled to gain an audience in the first few seasons. Luckily for Jerry and the crew, they had some fans in powerful positions at NBC and they kept it alive until it could get its foothold.
By churning out quality show after show (180 episodes in total), it hit its stride and became one of the top sitcoms of all time.
As the old saying goes; “There’s no such thing as an overnight success”.
I view building a business online the same way.
It takes showing up every day to break through (and a little luck, like Seinfeld had, doesn’t hurt).
A great way to show up every day and stay on top of people’s minds is with daily emails.
The good news is it won’t take years to make an impression with it (clients of mine are seeing results from email in as little as a few weeks).
