When it comes to podcast formats, there are a few options, including:
- Hybrid (a combination of some interview episodes and some solo ones)
My show is a hybrid – while the majority of my episodes are interview-style, I sprinkle in the odd solo episode …
So which type should you go with?
There’s no one right answer as each format has its advantages and disadvantages.
For example, interview-style shows are usually less work since you don’t have to create 100% of the content and are helped by your guests’ contributing. Also, your guests will share the interview to their audiences – so you’ll reach people you otherwise wouldn’t have …
But you’re also giving a platform to others which could take the attention away from you, your products, and your services.
Solo shows let you be the star of the show, but they’re more work (I know this because I also had a separate solo podcast called “The Marc Mawhinney Show” for a year in addition to Natural Born Coaches, and that show was more work than my regular podcast). You’re also losing exposure by not having guests sharing episodes around to their followers.
It all comes down to what your goals are and what you enjoy doing.
