Walt Disney’s frozen head (and other debunked myths)

by | Jul 2, 2018 | Blog

There’s an urban legend that Walt Disney had his head cryogenically frozen after he died in 1966.

The rumour is Walt was obsessed with death, and believed that he could be brought back to life in the future once medical advancements allowed for it.

It’s a cool story (no pun intended), but it’s been proven false.

Plenty of myths are also floating around the coaching world, and they’re about as true as the one about Walt’s frozen noggin:

=====

-> “If you’re working hard to grow your business, you’re doing it wrong!”:

Established online entrepreneurs like to spread this one around. While they now have money, teams, and the ability to take a lot of time off, they neglect to mention that they had to bust their behinds for years when getting their businesses off the ground (this myth is usually spread around with pictures of drinks on the beach, surf boards and a lavish lifestyle of fun and travel).

-> “You have to buy ads to be a successful coach”:

I know from personal experience this isn’t true. I built my business organically with no paid ads, and the coaches that I help are doing the same. Not to knock FB ads or anything – some people are doing well with them (more are flushing their money down a figurative toilet), but you don’t have to buy ads to make it as a coach.

-> “You can use swipe files and templates for your content”

Creating content isn’t always easy, but I’m a believer that you should be putting your message out there with your own voice. It’s lazy to just copy and paste stuff that you got from someone else, and it isn’t nearly as effective as using your own stuff.

-> “Don’t sell – give everything away for free!”

The theory is you give away stuff for free, knock people’s socks off, and they’ll think: “Wowzers, if his/her free stuff is this good – imagine how good their paid stuff is?!”. Know where to draw the free/paid line and not give away the farm.

-> “You have to have broad appeal and not niche down”

This myth says that you can’t niche down, or you risk losing people who could hire you. The truth is by niching down you have a better chance of getting more clients.

-> “Daily emails don’t work”

If I had a dollar for every time I heard this …

Listen, daily emails do work. I’ve been doing them for over two years, and I wouldn’t have sent that many emails if they didn’t get results (for the best results, speak in your own voice and don’t be afraid to sell in your emails).

=====

There you have it. Do the opposite of these myths, make a lot of money and buy yourself a ticket to Disney World to see if you can find Walt Disney’s frozen head (rumour has it that it’s hidden underneath the Pirates Of The Caribbean ride there).
