How do you feel about “The American Dream”?
In my opinion, this question is the ultimate Rorschach test to determine an entrepreneur’s chance of success.
I talked about this during my interview with Ben Settle for the 600th episode of “Natural Born Coaches” (which is being released on Monday), but here’s my point in a nutshell:
America is the land of opportunity, and the entrepreneur who believes that the opportunity is available for anyone who is willing to work for it has a better chance of success than the entrepreneur who blames their lack of success on the privilege or luck of others.
(A drinking game for social media in 2019: anytime someone whines about other’s “privilege”, take a shot).
In his book “How To Get Rich”, Felix Dennis wrote:

“My experience has been that money is color-blind, race-blind, sex-blind, degree-blind and couldn’t care less who brought you up or in what circumstances.
Money is one of the most neutral substances on earth. Others may conspire against you obtaining it through bigotry or prejudice. But they can only succeed if you permit them too.
The object of your goal, in and of itself, is non-sentient. If you truly believe that your race, sex or upbringing can keep you from becoming rich, then you had best give up here. Either return this book to the shelf or, if you have already bought it, return it to the bookstore for a refund or give it to a friend. You may obtain a refund or please your friend … but you will never get rich”

You only have so much energy to put out there, and that energy is better spent on building your business than on whining that there’s no such thing as “The American Dream”.
