I got a surprise a few days ago, when I found out that the best player on my favourite baseball team is leaving to play somewhere else this coming season.
For years I’ve watched Edwin Encarnacion hit home run after home run for my Toronto Blue Jays (including some very important ones), and now he’s going to be a Cleveland Indian.
I’m not going to lie … that stings.
But this isn’t the only time something has hurt:
– When I was 15, my grandfather unexpectedly passed away. We were really close, and I found out that he was gone when I got off the school bus on a Wednesday afternoon in November. That was the first death of someone close to me.
– I’ve had a marriage dissolve (that’s never fun)
– I’ve gone through not one, but two business closures before I started my coaching business.
– I’ve had friendships dissolve and bridges burned (haven’t we all?)
So in the grand scheme of things, a player leaving my favourite ball team ranks pretty low on the list of disappointments.
But don’t shed any tears for me …
It’s all about perspective.
Life has a way of throwing curveballs at you, especially if you’re an entrepreneur.
There isn’t much sense crying about challenges and disappointments, since that won’t do you any good.
You have to keep moving forward, and not be thrown off course by bad stuff popping up.
Suck it up, buttercup.
Disappointments will happen to you and me in the new year. That’s just life.
Keep moving forward.
I’m in your corner.
