Given the near-constant drumbeat of doom and gloom about 2020, one could be forgiven for thinking that it’s a horrible time to be in business.
But here’s a short list of some of the successful businesses that were started during recessions (and some were even started in the granddaddy of them all, The Great Depression):
- Microsoft
- Burger King
- Procter & Gamble
- FedEx
- IHOP
- Uber, Airbnb, Square, and Groupon (during “The Great Recession”, circa 2009)
- Hyatt Hotels
- General Motors
- Hewlett-Packard …
The truth is there’s never a perfect time to be in business, but there are plenty of entrepreneurs not only surviving but thriving in 2020.
My business is up over last year, and I’m seeing my clients doing the same.
