For a long time I struggled with relaxing.
If I’m being completely honest, I probably still do to an extent.
For example, I love reading but felt like I couldn’t do it at certain times of the day.
I always read in the morning before my day got going, and at night to slow the brain down before sleep. But I used to feel guilty doing it in the middle of the day. I thought it was somehow wrong, and that I should wait until the sun went down (it’s silly, I know).
So for the last few months I’ve been taking time to read during “normal business hours” – even if it’s for 30 or 60 minutes – and it feels good. I’ve reduced the amount of time I spend scrolling social media, so I’ve easily made up the time that way.
One of the books that I was reading during my daytime-relaxation period is “Mastering Fear” by Brandon Webb and a past guest on my podcast, John David Mann.
By coincidence he talks about this very issue in the book. Webb has a lot going on in his life with all of his business activities, and his calendar is stuffed, but he said that he takes an hour to read and think during the day to stay sane.
