Question: are questions questionable social media posts?

by | Mar 16, 2019 | Blog

Someone was triggered by a question that I posted on Facebook the other day.

It wasn’t the question that was offensive to her (it was a pretty vanilla one), it was the fact that I had the nerve to ask a question on my social media account.

Her comment:

“Asking people questions on Facebook? Long term marketing strategy to encourage conversation or a baited hook in a click tunnel funnel…lol”

Besides the term “click tunnel funnel”, the other funny thing is I don’t know this person – the only times she’s engaged on my posts (that I can recall) has been to whine with the identical comment.

I ignored her the first few times, but I eventually got bored with her unoriginality and unfriended her so she wouldn’t lose any sleep over this monumental issue.

(I know nothing about her, but i’m guessing that The Riddler isn’t her favourite Batman villain – she strikes me as more of a Joker girl …)

Here’s the thing:

“Social” is one half of the term “social media”.

And while I like getting engagement on my posts (guilty as charged), asking questions is a way for me to hear different opinions on a subject and to find out about resources I wouldn’t have otherwise known about.

That offending question that I asked led to me buying books that were recommended on the post, and a past client also messaged me that day with links to some good trainings that he did on the topic.

If I didn’t ask the question, or I restricted my social media to sharing stupid memes, jokes, or cat videos, I wouldn’t have known about those resources.

Besides the importance of staying open and learning every day, the other lesson from this is it’s your social media and to post what you want on there. If someone isn’t gelling with you, drop them and put someone else who does in their place.
