Despite being started 60 years ago during the Eisenhower administration, the I-95 (the highway which runs along the Eastern US from Miami up to Maine) is just being completed now.
There was a pesky gap in the highway near the New Jersey/Pennsylvania border that got stuck in bureaucratic gridlock, and drivers have been taking an inconvenient detour for decades.
Eisenhower would be rolling in his grave …
Although government isn’t known as being the fastest when it comes to completing projects, 60 years has to be some kind of record.
Speaking of long delays and waiting, during a training that I did recently I said that coaching isn’t a “get rich quick” thing.
But that led to some people thinking that I meant it was going to take decades to get your coaching business going.
That’s not what I mean when I say it isn’t a get rich quick …
I work with coaches, 1:1 or in my group program, for three months. That gives enough time to get things set up, for leads to come in, and clients to be enrolled.
My goal isn’t to work with someone for years or decades (or for life, as some coaches push for). If I have to work with someone that long, I’m not doing my job.
So three months is my magic number to get my coaches rolling and then send them on their merry way, with clients in hand.
Personally, I think that three months to get a business profitable and rolling with clients is pretty good – but in today’s hyped-up, ultra salesy online atmosphere (with gurus promising 6 or 7 figures in a few weeks, with no effort required), some find three months too long to wait.
My marketing is designed to push away these Get Rich Quick people, since I know they won’t put in the work that’s required to become successful.
As the famous saying from the show Kung Fu goes, “Patience, young grasshopper”.
