In business, it helps to have a powerful hook.
Whether you’re trying to get someone to open an email, read a blog post, click on a video or attend a summit that you’re doing, you have to pique their interest.
Awhile back, Jennie Wright asked me to be a guest on a virtual summit that she’s hosting with experts on sales, branding, social media and list building.
I was swamped at the time, and hesitant to take anything new onto my plate, but I agreed to hop on a call with her and see what she was up to.
Going into the call, I was thinking this one would have to be a polite “No”. But Jennie had a powerful hook:
The 1980’s!
That’s right. That magical decade of the Rubix Cube, MTV, fingerless gloves and big hair …
Jennie told me she was calling her event The Marketing Mixed Tape Summit, and it would have a cool 80’s feel.
Everything about the summit would follow this theme. Experts would have to choose a “theme song” from that decade, it would have retro graphics, and more.
Although it didn’t hurt that she lined up some great experts for her summit, like Ryan Lee, I loved that she had a unique hook for it and I jumped in.
The Marketing Mixed Tape Summit starts this week, and my interview will be on monetizing Facebook groups. There are tons of other experts giving their advice around things that will help you build your online business too.

Catch you in the 80’s …
