I was out of town last weekend for a camping trip to Prince Edward Island, and that old Righteous Brothers song, “You Lost That Loving Feeling”, came to my mind.

You see, I used to go to the same part of the island every summer as a kid. We’d play mini golf, go to adventure parks, and do the whole touristy thing as a family.

Now, decades later me, my friend Dave, my brother Matt, and his girlfriend decided to do some of those same things.

There are still some great spots over there and new businesses popping up with owners who definitely take pride in what they’re doing.

However, we went to one place to play mini golf where the owner clearly didn’t want to be doing it anymore:

– there was no clear signage on the road telling people that a business was there (I only knew because I was familiar with it from past visits.)

– the grass looked like it hadn’t been cut all summer.

– there was broken wood and missing bricks all over the course.

– rivers that were once flowing and made a nice addition to the course were now drier than The Sahara.

– the holes didn’t have signs telling us the numbers (with the exception of hole #17,) so we were guessing which way to go the whole time.

– and on-and-on …

A real estate sign sat by the road, and it was clear that the owner’s heart just wasn’t in it anymore.

What can you learn from this?

You want to be doing something that you love, or people will pick up on your lack of interest.

You may be doing it every single day, but this could be the first time the customer is experiencing what you have to offer.

If you aren’t having fun, have a hard look at what you’re doing and who you’re working with, and see if adjusting those things will bring back that lovin’ feeling.
