Continuing today with the lessons that I’ve learned from the great game of poker …
Back when I was playing a lot (about a decade ago), I had a weekly game with some friends.
One of those friends, Mark, had an interesting strategy.
Every time he had a “bad beat” (meaning he lost a hand that he should have won), he automatically bet aggressively on the very next hand.
It didn’t matter how big the next pot was. It was usually a crappy little pot with few chips, but without fail he always went after it.
And he usually won, because people were too scared to risk their chips betting on a small pot.
I was curious why he did this, so I asked him about it. He told me that after he suffered a bad loss, he wanted to notch a win as quickly as possible to keep his mind positive.
Those little wins gave him momentum, and he swore by this strategy.
The same is true with little wins in business and in life.
While most people want to swing for the fences and hit the big home run, those little singles and doubles are what make the difference (hey, now this is turning into a baseball email!)
You’ll do better by collecting a bunch of little wins throughout the year than always going for the big ones. The little wins actually compound to create big ones eventually!
What little wins can you grab this weekend?
Joining my Secret Coach Club would be one win.
The next issue goes to print soon, and I’ve packed it with goodies to get you more coaching clients and customers than you can handle.
