Have you seen the viral photo of the man mowing his lawn while a tornado approached behind him?
Seriously – the guy was so intent on getting his lawn mowed that not even a tornado could stop him.
(On Monday I just mowed our lawn for the first time in June, so maybe I could get some pointers?)
All kidding aside, there are lessons that coaches can learn from this super hero lawn mower.
Like how you have to keep your cool when you’re taking care of business. You can’t run around like a chicken with its head cut off.
Here’s another one: don’t let them see you sweat. This guy carried on to get the job done, and it didn’t look like he was phased at all. He even laughed about the situation afterwards, claiming that the tornado wasn’t as close as it looked.
The opposite of this Cool Tornado Guy are the coaches who freak out over every little bump in the road.
They lose a client, they freak.
Their web guy goes MIA, they lose it.
A troll spews crap on their Facebook post and it’s the end of the world.
I even had a coach who recently unfriended me on Facebook because I rejected someone she was pitching to be a guest on my podcast. She felt entitled to an automatic “yes” with her request, and took her ball and ran home when she didn’t get it.
You have to have a thicker skin if you want to make it in this biz.
The key to being unfazed is to have enough clients and customers that you’re too busy to worry about petty nonsense.
