Once upon a time, I used the same scripted questions for my podcast interviews.
While they would vary occasionally, there was a core group of questions that I stuck to asking everyone.
After about 100 or so interviews, I got bored of this approach and decided to ditch the script and go with a much more freestyle method of interviewing.
Now, I have an easy pre-interview research method so I have some questions that I know I want to ask beforehand, and I chat with the guest before hitting “record” to decide on a theme for the episode, but I usually wait until the interview is rolling to see where things will go.
I’ve now hosted almost 800 guests for Natural Born Coaches, and have learned some tips and tricks to ensure my interviews are as valuable for listeners as possible.
