When you saw the word “energy” in the subject line, you thought this email would be filled with woo woo, right?
Don’t worry … no woo woo here!
But I want to share a very important lesson that I got last week about my energy.
I haven’t really noticed this until last week, but I’ve been spending too much energy on things that don’t deserve it.
There are little things that pop up in my day that, unless my radar is up, can easily sidetrack me and keep me from doing important things that I have to be doing.
Here are just two examples of at least 10 such ones that entered into my life last week:
1) Someone objected to a typo (yes, a typo) in a Facebook post that I made. In the past, I would have messaged her back, and it could have become a 15 minute message-loop discussing that typo. I chose to ignore her and not respond (felt great.)
2) Someone texted me to let me know that someone she hates was behind her in traffic (and it wasn’t just one text, but about eight discussing why she hates her so much.) Seeing that I was having a crazy busy day, I chose not to jump into that conversation.
I won’t bore you with the details of the others instances, but I assure you that they were equally mundane, and that I felt just as good by not spending an ounce of energy on them.
By choosing to not engage the other person, I easily saved a few hours of time (and precious energy) last week.
We only have a finite amount of energy to spend, and I now refuse to waste it on fluff or nonsense.
Want to correct a typo in a Facebook post? That’s your choice, but I’m too busy building my business (and I recommend you do the same!)
You don’t owe every person who comes at you a response – remember that limited energy supply and keep it for the things that really matter.
