I have a weird habit whenever I get a shower:
I keep a notepad and a pen by the sink.
Why?
Because I get some of my best ideas for content while I’m in the shower, and I want to get them down on paper before they float away and are gone forever.
Before I started this practice, there were plenty of times that I rushed to wash the shampoo out of my eyes and get to my laptop before I lost the idea … and I know I’ve lost some good ones!
So we get some of our best ideas when we least expect it, probably because we’re relaxing our brains and not trying too hard to come up with something.
It reminds me of a story from a copywriter who went to be mentored in-person by Gary Halbert, who was kind of like the Michael Jordan of copywriting (he was called “The Prince of Print”)
When he arrived there, Gary took him around town all day – doing tasks and running around, washing his boat (if I remember the story correctly) and basically anything except actually writing anything.
The copywriter was surprised, and wondered why they weren’t getting the writing done for their clients. But when they finally arrived back to Gary’s place, something magical happened.
His writing was on fire.
He was a machine.
You couldn’t stop him!
There was a method to Gary Halbert’s madness. All day, when it looked like he was slacking off, he was actually coming up with ideas for his copy.
By relaxing and doing things that he enjoyed (instead of staring at a blank pad of paper) he became energized. And when it was time to get to writing, the words just flowed out.
That’s a good lesson for we coaches to remember when we need to get creative too …
If you’re looking to get a boost for your content creation, you’ll want to grab the January issue of my Secret Coach Club hard copy newsletter.
It’s a special “content creation playbook” that shows exactly how I create so much content, and it’ll make the process a lot easier for you.
The deadline to get it is this Sunday night, so hurry over here:
