An ad that explorer Ernest Shackleton placed in the newspaper when he was looking for men to join his team for his expedition to The Antarctic:
“Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in event of success.”
By putting it all out there, Ernie could be sure that those who replied were tough buggers who wouldn’t cry and want to turn around at the first sign of a snowflake.
Those men knew the risks going in, so they were better prepared mentally when the inevitable challenges hit.
