HELPING COACHES GET MORE CLIENTS SINCE 2014!

How to get lucky on St.Patrick’s Day

by | Mar 17, 2019 | Blog

Since it’s St. Patrick’s Day, and we Mawhinneys are Irish, I felt obligated to write something Irish-y.

Let’s talk about a funny scene from the movie “Dodgeball”, which is based around a popular Irish phrase – “The Luck of the Irish”:

In the scene, the good guys are walking through a casino the day before their championship game against their arch-rivals from Globo Gym, with their wheelchair-bound/dodgeball expert coach Patches O’Houlihan leading the way.

Justin: “You really think we can beat Globo Gym?

Peter La Fleur (played by Vince Vaughn): “As long as we have Patches, we’ve got a shot”

Suddenly, a “The Luck of the Irish” sign comes crashing down from the ceiling, killing Patches instantly.

(I laugh out loud every time I hear Vince Vaughn’s character later say: “They don’t make a ‘Sorry Your Dodgeball Coach Just Got Crushed By Two Tons Of Irony’ Hallmark card”)

Speaking of luck, a lot of people think that successful people are “lucky”, or just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

In my experience, there’s no such thing as luck for entrepreneurs.

What may look like luck is a result of months, years, or even decades of hard work.

By working their butts off, those people gave themselves more opportunities to find success. But it doesn’t mean that they’re “lucky”.

What I teach my clients takes work – there’s no way around it.

You can’t just throw a lucky charm in your pocket and expect to become a successful coach.

But if you put it into action, you’ll become one of those “lucky” coaches that bitter competitors are complaining about.
