A few months back everyone was talking about the documentary “FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened”, about the failed Fyre Festival of 2017.
That event was supposed to be the Woodstock for Millennials. It was going to be held on a beautiful island with beautiful people, have great food and music, and tons of celebrities …
But it ended up resembling a refugee camp with only bread and cheese sandwiches, and the fallout was very messy.
Although it doesn’t match the level of disaster that was Fyre, I recently heard about a celebrity in the online space who’s involved in a lawsuit right now because she didn’t have the right agreement in place with a team member who was responsible for booking the accommodations for a luxury retreat.
The team member – without knowledge or permission – delegated the job to a shady travel company, which failed to book the retreat on time.
This resulted in schedule changes and angry masterminders who had to change their travel plans at the last minute.
The team member claimed refunds would be paid, but the mastermind host is out tens of thousands of dollars and is stuck trying to collect from the team member while fending off claims from angry participants.
The moral of the story?
A run-of-the-mill team agreement isn’t going to cut it. Even the best team members need guidelines, and they can help you avoid messy situations.
