HELPING COACHES GET MORE CLIENTS SINCE 2014!

How to avoid blowing it like Burt Wonderstone

by | Oct 12, 2019 | Blog

It takes some time to build a successful coaching business.

You can’t expect to do one week of emails, or a few Facebook lives, or release a couple podcast interviews and then suddenly be swamped with clients and swimming in a vault of gold coins like Scrooge McDuck.

It’s best to prepare, have a plan, and be patient while “priming the pump”

It reminds me of the movie “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” (a hilarious and underrated film, in my opinion):

The title character, played by Steve Carrell, goes from being the top magician in Las Vegas to a has-been, and has to reinvigorate his act to get back on top.

Anton (his magician partner) comes up with a new trick called “The Hot Box”, where the two have to spend a week suspended in a glass box high above the streets of Vegas.

Anton prepared for the trick in advance, practicing his breathing and meditation. He went in with a plan …

Burt didn’t prepare at all because he thought it’d be a piece of cake. How hard could it be to stay in a hot box?

But after just 20 minutes, Burt freaks out and starts kicking at the glass walls keeping them enclosed, and (spoiler alert) they fall to the ground.

Massive fail.

A lot of coaches remind me of Burt – they think it’ll be easy to get clients, but struggle and then start panicking.

Best to have a plan going into it so you won’t freak out and blow it.
