I’m sometimes asked how i came up with the name “Natural Born Coaches” for my podcast, so I thought I’d share the story here:
Once I decided to start my show in 2014, I hauled out a yellow legal pad and began jotting down potential names for it.
Unfortunately most of those names didn’t feel right, or the ones that seemed like a possibility were already taken.
So I decided to use a different approach:
I pulled out the Top 100 songs and movies lists for each of the previous 25 years.
As I went through the songs lists from 2014 back to about 1990, I inserted my preferred keywords (“coach”, “coaches”, “coaching”) into the various song titles and band names.
Nothing stuck, although I did buy the domain for “New Coaches On The Block” (a play on “New Kids On The Block” … haha)
After I got through the songs lists, I moved on to movies, starting with 2014’s top films and working my way backwards.
Nothing grabbed me, until I got to 1994’s list and came across Oliver Stone’s (excellent) movie “Natural Born Killers” …
I inserted my keywords into it and the light bulb went off for “Natural Born Coaches”!
I looked to make sure there wasn’t a podcast with that name already, and raced over to GoDaddy to check on the availability of the domain.
Luckily it was available, I bought it, and the rest is history.
I’ve now released 742 episodes of my show, and in that time I’ve perfected a system for profitable podcasting.
