I had an interesting coaching session with a client this week, and I wanted to share (with his permission, of course)
My client – Andrey Seas – is a coach who needs to get something done before our call next week.
Lately he’s been procrastinating on doing it, so we talked about it on the call. And we came up with something:
We decided that if Andrey doesn’t get it done, he has to do something that’s going to hurt him (a lot) …
He’s going to have to donate to the KKK.
That’s right. He’ll have to open up his wallet, take out his hard earned money, and send it to a cause that he’s completely opposed to.
I’m guessing that he’ll do what he needs to do.
I’ve heard of this strategy before, after a guest on Natural Born Coaches told me about it. Her suggestion was to motivate yourself by giving a deadline for your task – and if you don’t do it, you donate to a cause, organization, or political candidate that you loathe.
I’ve used it successfully with other clients, and it’s worked like a charm every time.
Does it have a 100% success rate? I can’t think of much in this world that’s 100% guaranteed. But it’s pretty darn close (99.4% sounds about right)
I’m betting that Andrey will get it done in time. In fact, I’ll say right here and now that if he doesn’t succeed I’ll buy a New York Yankees jersey … now that’s motivation for me!
If you need someone to keep you accountable and get your coaching business rolling, let’s chat this week:
