If you want to get your message out into the world, it helps if you do it with writing. Video and other methods are obviously important, but getting your ideas out on paper (or the screen) can be powerful as well.

Last week I was asked how I write and create content, and I shared tips with that person and with The Coaching Jungle group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/TheCoachingJungle/permalink/1096418057079445/).

Here’s the advice that I gave:

“When it comes to creating content, sometimes you’ll be in the groove, and other times you won’t.

There are times when you can do a rain dance, rub your lucky rabbit’s foot, or chant affirmations until the cows come home, and it won’t make a difference.

The hardest part is often just starting, but that simple act can lead to “the groove”. The key is once you’re in the groove, ride it as long as possible and keep rolling.

If it’s just not working for you at that time, don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Mix it up, do something else and then come back and try again later.

I keep a folder on my desktop where I type and collect ideas. When it comes time to email/post something, I’m rarely staring at a blank screen since I have at least something started.

And then I start writing …”

Some of the coaches that I’ve worked with haven’t been fans of writing, preferring other vehicles to get their messages out. I’ve asked them to atleast try writing, and sometimes they warm to it (and eventually love doing it)

It can take some accountability. One of my clients admitted that he needed some accountability to post his daily musings on social media before the sun came up, and I’m checking in with him to make sure he stays on track.

A couple of days into this, and he’s on his way.
