Recently, a coach and Secret Coach Club subscriber (who also bought my Daily Email System program), got some blowback from an email that she sent out to her list.
To paraphrase, one of her subscribers asked that she not send her daily emails because seeing an email in her inbox makes her anxious, and she requested that she scale it back to one email per week.
When the coach asked for my advice, I recommended that she remove that subscriber from her list.
Not to make light of anyone’s anxiety, but I told her that if she gives into every request that comes her way, she’ll drive herself crazy (and it’ll hurt her business).
When you have a list of hundreds or thousands of subscribers, good luck getting 100% agreement on anything.
I’m reminded of the time a subscriber of mine emailed me with (again, I’m paraphrasing here):
===
“Marc, I enjoy your emails but you sometimes have a potty mouth and it’s not on the same vibrational energy plane as me … can you clean it up please?”
===
I’m not one to drop F-bombs in my stuff, but I think I said “BS” or “crap” in the email she was responding to.
In that case, I told her that I write like how I talk, and I wouldn’t be changing that. I also invited her to leave, with no hard feelings, if it bothered her.
Raymond Hull once said: “He who trims himself to suit everyone will soon whittle himself away”, and I do my best to remember that as I go along in business.
Yet most coaches and online entrepreneurs twist themselves into pretzels whenever anyone requests that they do things differently.
Don’t operate your business by rewarding the squeaky wheel with grease.
Do things the way *you* want to do them, and invite those who aren’t cool with that to move along.
Chances are they weren’t a great fit for your anyways, and would never have become a client or customer.
If you’re ready to grow a coaching business where you unapologetically do what you want to do, I’m opening up my next “10 Clients In 90 Days” group soon.
I’m going to work directly with just six coaches over 12 weeks for it …
