This week I met (virtually) an entrepreneur who has one of the coolest businesses I’ve ever heard of.
His name is Steve Sims, and he’s the head of BlueFish – an elite concierge service.
You can’t find their phone number anywhere.
People pay $5k to become a client and to get their number, and then they can request that BlueFish set up an experience that they’ve always wanted to do.
Just a few examples of what Steve’s team has set up for clients:
– a weekend as James Bond in Monte Carlo. Steve told me that this cost the client almost $500,000, but they hired a pro to write a script, hired actors to play roles (including a Bond girl and Bond villain) and did a very elaborate role play.
– getting married by the Pope at the Vatican.
– taking a submarine trip to the Titanic.
– becoming the temporary lead singer of Journey and performing with the band on stage.
– enjoying walk-on roles on hit movies and tv shows.
– and a whole lot more …
Here’s the thing:
Steve admitted to me that if he can build a successful business like his, anyone can do it.
He doesn’t have much of an education, dropping out of high school before finishing it.
And he comes from a working-class background (his father was a bricklayer)
He was able to do it because he realized that he had a knack for setting things up for people, and he ran with it.
Close to 20 years later, he’s built something really special. But if he’d listened to the naysayers, he wouldn’t be where he is today.
It’s stories like Steve’s that I remember when I’m talking with someone who’s thinking of becoming a coach, but is worried that they don’t have the right background for it.
As long as you want to help people, and can get your clients from Point A to Point B, you can be a coach.
