A few years back, a client and I got talking about our love of listening to podcasts and audiobooks.
During our conversation, he told me that he always listens to material at double the normal speed, and suggested that I try doing the 2x thing as well.
I told him that I didn’t think it would work and that what I was listening to wouldn’t sink in, but he promised that after doing it for awhile my brain would get used to it.
So I gave it a try, and was shocked to discover that it did work (sure, for the first little while it sounded like the podcasters/audiobook narrators were chipmunks, but it didn’t last long …)
Now I can’t listen to anything at normal, 1x speed. It feels too slow – like back in the old days when my Walkman was running out of battery power and the voices slowed waaaaaaaay down.
I really wish I had known about this little trick that summer that I listened to the audiobook for “Atlas Shrugged” – it would have dropped it from 64 hours to 32, but better late than never I guess.
