Here’s a strange trend that I’ve seen online:
- I get a cold email pitch from a service provider I don’t know, which includes a long (10-20 minute) video claiming to show how they can help my business and often in a condescending tone about how much money is being left on the table by not working with them.
- I don’t watch the video, because frankly I don’t have time, nor do I reply (if I replied to all cold pitches I’d be on my email 24/7 and wouldn’t get anything else done).
- I then get follow-ups from the stranger every day or every few days, checking back to see if I watched the video and if we can hop on a call to discuss.
Hey, I get the importance of persistence and follow up, but:
1) Expecting someone to devote a lot of time consuming a cold pitch is unreasonable (and frankly, annoying)
2) If the recipient doesn’t respond to the initial cold pitch, it’s telling you that they’re not interested. Move on …
Seems like a bad way to try to get new business IMHO (and makes you feel like you’re being chased by a hungry hyena that hasn’t had a decent meal in a week …)
