There’s a classic episode of “I Love Lucy” that reminds me of the coaching world.

In that episode, Lucy and her friend Ethel get jobs wrapping chocolates in a factory and are warned by their supervisor that if they miss wrapping even one piece they’ll be fired.

When the chocolates first come down the conveyor belt, the women are able to handle them.

But as the speed increases, they lose control.

In a desperate attempt to hide the unwrapped chocolates, they shove as many of them as they can into their mouths, down their shirts, in their hats … anywhere they can hide the evidence.

That conveyor belt of chocolates is a lot like the tasks that are coming at coaches nowadays.

There’s little relief, since as their businesses grow so do their responsibilities as they struggle to keep up with everything.

Coaches don’t have the luxury of shoving those tasks off to the side.
