“A chip and a chair” …
That’s one of my favourite sayings from the game of poker.
It means that as long as you have one chip and a seat at the table, you could still win.
The saying came about when Jack Straus won the 1982 World Series of Poker after being knocked down to his final chip.
Legend has it that Straus pushed all of his chips into the middle on a hand and lost, so he got up to leave the table. When he was getting up, he noticed a single chip stuck under his napkin, so he was allowed to stay in the game (since he hadn’t declared he was going “all-in”).
Straus went on an incredible streak and did the impossible, winning the whole thing!
The same goes for business – as long as you have a seat at the table (and a chip), you can still win.
You don’t need a huge stack (ie: thousands and thousands of dollars for fancy ads), you can make it with no money.
I’m not saying that it’s going to be easy. But you can make up for no resources with energy and a whole bunch of effort.
When I started my coaching business back in early 2014, I was the equivalent of Jack Straus with his single chip.
I didn’t have a lot of money to throw into my new business, so I worked my tail off to make up for that.
The combination of hard work and a little luck helped me get my business rolling and to where it’s at today.
You’re reading these emails, so I know you have that same motivation to make it.
As long as you stay in the game, and work hard, you can do it too.
