Back when I started my coaching business (in early 2014), it seemed like a noisy space.
I remember noticing how busy it was. It seemed like there were a ton of coaches, who were putting a lot of social media posts and emails out there.
Flash forward to 2018, and that noise has gotten a whole lot louder.
2014 was a mosquito buzz, and 2018 is the roar of a chainsaw.
That’s not to say that it’s impossible to get your message heard, just that it’ll take more effort and consistency than it did in past years.
Back then, you could get away with posting less frequently. But the days of posting once a day on Facebook or emailing your list once every week or two are gone.
Take my business, for example:
– I post about 10x/day on Facebook (between my Facebook group/personal profile and fan page … and I consistently post elsewhere like on LinkedIn and Twitter).
– I send daily emails to my list (sometimes multiple emails).
– I have two podcasts (Natural Born Coaches and The Marc Mawhinney Show)
– I have a daily Alexa Flash Briefing (The Marc Mawhinney Minute)
– I go on about 100 podcasts/year to be interviewed …
That’s just some of the stuff that I’m doing to get my message out to potential clients and customers, and I’m always keeping my eye out for new avenues.
I’m not saying that you have to do these exact things (ie: if you don’t enjoy writing, focus on video). Whatever you choose to do, it’s going to take a lot to get your message to cut through the noise in the online space in 2018.
It can be frustrating at times. But once you get into the content creation groove it gets easier (and you can repackage some of your content to be used on different platforms).
One of the things I help coaches with is establishing a solid content creation plan, and then providing accountability to make sure you stay on track with it.
