Being an entrepreneur with a home-based business has its share of challenges.
Although working from home is great for offering flexibility (you can actually work in your PJs and slippers, if you feel like it!), it’s not all sunshine, lollipops and rainbows.
I talk with a lot of coaches who work from home, and one of the issues that I’m hearing a lot about lately is the feeling of loneliness that they have.
Sure, they talk to clients and prospects through their screen every day. But they usually aren’t meeting them face-to-face, unless you consider Skype “face-to-face”.
They lose that personal connection that most of the people in society get by going to work at an office.
There have been times that I’ve felt like Tom Hanks’ character in the movie Castaway – tempted to buy a volleyball so I could make my very own Wilson to talk to.
Especially on those cold Canadian winter days, where I look outside and all I see if white stuff. Not exactly beach weather …
Luckily, it hasn’t gotten so bad that I’m talking with volleyballs, but the whole work-from-home thing can play games with your head.
This past weekend I was tired. I had a busy week for my business, and by the time the weekend arrived I was beat.
Although tempted to do even more work (I’m a recovering workaholic), I forced myself to take time off. I hosted a poker night with friends on Saturday, and got to the beach a couple of times too since we’re enjoying beautiful September weather here.
When the new week arrived yesterday, I found myself refreshed and ready to tackle the world. I did a lot of writing and content creation between my coaching calls, and I have to think that my relaxation over the weekend had a lot to do with the burst of energy.
Getting some R & R is important, but it doesn’t solve the feeling of being on your own and without anyone in your corner …
That’s one of the reasons why coaches have been flocking to my Secret Coach Club. The print newsletter has my best stuff (that you won’t find anywhere else), but subscribers also get to reach out and “pick my brain”.
So if they’re having an off-day or need help with something, I’m just a few clicks of the keyboard away.
I’m not a volleyball with hair, but I can help give you the support that you need for your coaching business:
