HELPING COACHES GET MORE CLIENTS SINCE 2014!

What coaches can learn from their Fitbits

by | May 21, 2017 | Blog

My girlfriend and I each got a Fitbit yesterday.

We caved in to the peer pressure after seeing so many people with them, plus we want to get out for a lot of fresh air and exercise now that the nice weather is here.

Although I just got it, the Fitbit is already doing the trick. Last night we went to a local park and did a few loops around it, for 9,000 steps.

It was fun checking my wrist (and the app) to see a bunch of cool stats like the number of steps I’ve taken for the day and detailed info about my sleep pattern. The thing will even track my water intake, lead guided meditations and cut my lawn (kidding about that last one) …

The big reason that I, and so many others, like the Fitbit is because of the gamification aspect of it. Humans are hardwired to be addicted to progress and competition. When we have a constant reminder of how many steps we’ve taken on a certain day, there’s a natural inclination to want to beat it the next day (or whip our friends butts with our number, since you’re able to do challenges with friends).

It’s the same reason why people play Candy Crush until 3 AM, or hop online to play as an elf in one of those role-playing games (I’ve heard of people practically living in those worlds and having virtual weddings there, which is taking it a little far).

You can add gamification to help grow your business, too.

Once you decide what are the important things that you have to be doing, you can assign points to each task with a goal to hit a certain number every day. For example:

– know you should be reaching out to potential clients consistently? Give yourself 5 points for every-reach out.

– Want to write daily emails to your list? Give yourself 25 points for every one.

– Want to get discovery calls booked? Give yourself 50 points for every one of those.

(These numbers are off the top of my mind, you decide on your points system).

I’ve started assigning point totals when tracking the metrics in my business, and it’s helping my productivity. I’m making a game of it, and using the same addictive formula that gets people addicted to their Fitbits and a healthier lifestyle.

If you’re thinking of adding gamification to your own business but you aren’t sure the things that you should be doing, I’ll be outlining a system for it in the next issue of the Secret Coach Club print newsletter. It goes to print soon, don’t miss it:
