At first glance, the addictive little smartphone game Plants Vs. Zombies offers little in way of business advice for coaches.
It’s a game with the goal of keeping zombies from entering your house and eating your brains by using plants (like peashooters) to spit out stuff at the advancing zombies.
If you continue to fire consistently, you’ll keep the bad guys away. But if you stop firing for even a little bit, the zombies will advance and will make it into your house …
Game over.
Just as zombie-slayers have to always be firing things out there, coaches have to always have something that they’re offering their marketplace.
For example, this week I’ve been promoting the LinkedIn training that Paul McManus and I are partnering on that runs later today. After that training is finished, I’ll be offering other things that I feel strongly about (one thing that I talk a lot about is my Secret Coach Club print newsletter).
At any given time I’m offering something of value to my community of coaches. I’m firing bullets …
It wasn’t always like this: a few years back, I would promote something heavily for awhile, then take a breather on promotion for a few weeks, then pick back up on something else for a bit, then stop promoting.
This inconsistency wasn’t helping my business, and I learned that I had to make sure I always had programs and products that I believed in and was letting people know about.
If your bank account isn’t where you’d like it to be right now, it could be a similar issue with consistency.
Find some things that will benefit your marketplace, and get firing them out there.
