Minecraft’s graphics stink, and that’s ok

by | Dec 30, 2016 | Blog

My little guy, like most 8 year old boys, is obsessed with the game Minecraft.

His obsession has gone from playing the video game to collecting just about anything that has to do with it: books, action figures, clothes, posters …

When I first saw Minecraft a few years back, I was underwhelmed.

It has crappy, blocky graphics (I grew up playing the old Nintendo in the mid-to-late 80’s, and the graphics remind me of those!).

And it seems like you just walk around building stuff, without much point to it.

Zzzzzzz.

But who am I to judge?

A crazy number of people love it, and it’s crossed over into pop culture … so who cares that the graphics aren’t that good? Obviously, it’s doing something right …

Entrepreneurs can pull a lesson out this. We often fall into the trap of thinking we need to create super-cool, awesome looking stuff in order to be successful.

Sure, the bells and whistles look nice – but they aren’t going to be the deciding factor for the success of your business.

Some of the most successful coaches that I know have very basic looking websites that haven’t been changed in a decade.

Come to think of it, some of the most-visited websites in the world are extremely basic. “The Drudge Report” got 1.5 billion page views back in July, and it looks like something constructed by a high school student during his lunch break.

At the end of the day, Minecraft delivers on its goal of entertaining people.

And you can deliver on your goal of helping people get results, without a lot of fancy-schmancy stuff.

If you aren’t trapped by perfectionism, you could be a good fit for my next group program for coaches which starts in January. You can get more information at this very basic-looking page,
