I grew up in a small community with a twin brother and close friends living nearby who loved to play sports with each other.
Baseball, hockey (we’re Canadians, after all), football, frisbee …
You name it, we played it.
But my mother was always very clear that I could only play after I got my homework done.
Want to see a 10 year old plow through his homework quickly at 5 pm? Threaten his baseball time.
I always got my homework done because:
1) I really loved playing outdoors, and
2) If I didn’t get to burn off my energy outdoors in the evening, I would have felt like my day was wasted with just school and homework.
Those lessons have carried over into adulthood.
As an entrepreneur, I make sure I get my “homework” done.
Homework means any of the things that I need to do for the health of my business.
Once I get my stuff done, then I can “go out and play” – that could be watching a movie (I finally got to see Rogue One last night) or heading to the beach in the months where we’re not dealing with five feet of snow or god awful freezing temperatures here.
I’m all for rewarding myself, but it’s the “homework” that creates the revenue that pays the bills, so I put that at the top of my to-do list.
If you want something to do that’s more fun than homework – and will grow your coaching business – you’ve got a few days left to get my Your First 5 Clients program at $100 off the usual price:
