Back in the early days of doing Natural Born Coaches, I had an interview scheduled with a big guest.
I loved his work, and was excited to be doing it since he was hard to get booked for those things.
But the day of the interview, I came down with a nasty flu bug and I spent hours running back and forth from my bed to the bathroom (that’s why I prefaced this email with “viewer discretion advised”)
I won’t get into the details, but it was a rough day.
The interview was scheduled for early evening, so I had a decision to make: do I keep the interview, or cancel it and have to push it back many months? (he’s a busy guy)
Decisions, decisions …
I decided to do the interview as scheduled, and kept a garbage can at my feet should I need it during the call.
I’m happy to report that I didn’t need that garbage can …
The interview got done, and from listening to it you’d never know that my insides felt like I had done an all-day roller coaster marathon on the Kingda Ka at Six Flags in New Jersey (that’s the world’s tallest and scariest roller coaster, fyi)
Some may say that my actions that day were extreme, and that I should have postponed the interview. Heck, they may even be right …
But when I launched my show, I promised that I was going to show up every day for it, give it 110%, and not “mail it in”.
I take the same approach with all things around my business. I’ve often been accused of over-doing it and working too hard, but I would rather err on the side of working too hard than not.
So unless I’m on my deathbed, I’m going to do what I need to do for the good of my business.
I’ve met plenty of other coaches who have the same mindset, and not surprising, they’re successful too. If someone takes this approach, their chances of “making it” are pretty good.
Those are the kind of coaches who I want to help as my clients: the ones who don’t cancel a call because they have the sniffles, or don’t want to interrupt the Netflix marathon that they’re working on.
