I enjoy being an entrepreneur – I can’t imagine doing anything else.
I think it’s great when people want to start their own businesses. The world needs more entrepreneurs.
Nowadays we hear about entrepreneurship all the time. People talk it up all over social media, on podcasts, and in the thousands of personal development books that are released every year.
But entrepreneurship has been put up on such a pedestal that people are led to believe that it’s the *only* game in town and if they aren’t an entrepreneur – and striving for the heights of Steve Jobs or Elon Musk – that they’re somehow failures.
I heard a different point of view last weekend. I picked up the most recent issue of Success magazine, and I was listening to the audio CD that’s included in every issue while I was out doing some running around.
One of the interviews was with Gary Vaynerchuk, who was open and candid like Gary Vee always is. He was talking about entrepreneurship, and how it’s not necessary for people to become entrepreneurs if it’s not for them.
It’s not the right fit for everyone.
Gary said that some people are a better fit working as part of a team, as a #2, or a #4 – and will be happier (and better compensated) going that route. There’s a definite need for valuable team members like that.
He also noted that the 18th person who came onboard at Facebook is filthy rich now, and that person wasn’t an “entrepreneur” …
At the end of the day, it’s about what makes you happy.
If you’re happy being an entrepreneur, go for it.
If you want to do something else, then have at it.
There are lots of potential roles in the world for you to contribute and do good.
The choice is yours …
