I just finished watching season 1 of Better Call Saul on Netflix, and I think coaches can learn a thing or two from the guy.
If you’re familiar with the character (first made popular on Breaking Bad) you may think I’m nuts, but hear me out …
Saul Goodman is ethically challenged at times (I didn’t say to follow EVERYTHING), but you have to admire his eagerness when it comes to building his business.
(Mild spoilers ahead)
In one episode, he discovers that a corrupt nursing home is screwing over its elderly residents. Once the nursing home knows that Saul knows, they start giving their paper shredders some exercise and destroy the evidence.
But you can’t stop Saul with mere paper shredders. He sneaks onto the property late one night, hops in the garbage dumpster and swims around in filth and other stuff to retrieve the strips of paper.
He then takes them back home, and with the help of his brother, starts the difficult task of putting them all together until they finally do the (seemingly) impossible and piece together the paperwork that is the smoking gun that will win justice for his clients!
Throughout the series, Saul is constantly thinking on his feet to come up with solutions to get out of jams and to help his clients.
When you boil it all down, the series is about transformation. Saul has a big dream, and isn’t going to be held back from past mistakes to make it happen.
Your past doesn’t matter … if you have a big dream, you have the right to go for it!
