A few nights ago, I went to see the movie Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising …
In the movie, a rowdy sorority named “Kappa Nu” moves next door to an older married couple (played by Seth Rogan and Rose Byrne), and threatens the sale of their house.
(I’m older than both Rogan and Byrne, so the number of jokes about them being old hurt!)
Anyways, the girls are the neighbours from Hell:
They party at all hours …
They blast music and carry on with shenanigans …
Their neighbours are so stressed out that they can’t even sleep!
Here’s the thing:
When you’re running a business, bad clients aren’t that much different from bad neighbours.
They’re disruptive.
Distracting.
Energy-draining.
And if they’re allowed to stay near you, they can keep you from your goals.
In the early days, I would work with almost anyone (well, as long as they had a pulse, or could fog a mirror.)
Sometimes I went against my gut instinct, and agreed to work with someone that I knew wasn’t the right fit – in the hope that I could make it work.
And it rarely worked out well.
Bad clients, like bad neighbours, will take away your energy and your peace of mind.
It’s best to avoid them like the plague.
One thing that I help my clients with is getting clear on who their ideal clients are, so they don’t end up with the “Kappa Nu”‘s that they don’t want (I have an exercise that practically guarantees that you only work with your ideal clients.)
I have a few openings for 1:1 and group clients, email me at Marc@NaturalBornCoaches.com if you want my help growing your coaching biz,
