I had a conversation with someone recently who lost a big client back in December.
His response?
“I know 2026 is going to be a down year …”
He said it twice.
With certainty, like it was already decided.
I stopped him and asked:
“How do you know that?”
Here’s the thing: when you tell yourself a story like that, you’re not predicting the future. You’re creating it.
You’re going into the Super Bowl already accepting you’re going to lose. And then wondering why you lost.
There are other potential clients out there. But if you’ve already written off the year, you won’t go after them with the energy needed to land them.
