As a loyal fan of Star Wars (before Disney wrecked it), I may regret typing this, but it has to be said:
I think that Jar Jar Binks was actually good for something!
I was listening to an interview that George Lucas did, and he was asked about the tremendous amount of hate he got from fans over his character Jar Jar.
Lucas explained that there are two types of people in the world:
Creators and Destroyers.
Creators take a risk by creating something that some people won’t like.
Destroyers don’t create anything themselves, but choose to tear down those who do.
Lucas was saying that he would rather be a creator, and he accepts that being attacked just comes with the territory.
When you’re a coach, you’re in a very public online world.
And not everyone will like what you’re creating.
But you can’t take your foot off the gas for those critics.
You have to continue to create, because you’re going to help a lot more people that way.
Jar Jar reinforced this distinction for me …
