Back in the old days, I wasted a lot of time on calls with people I shouldn’t have been talking to.
These folks (usually strangers, or casual social media acquaintances) reached out to ask me for:
- a “getting-to-know-you” call
- a “virtual coffee”
- a call to see what I was working on in my business
- a chat to explore ways we could help each other …
A lot of these requests were actually disguised pitches to get me to promote them to my audience.
“By the way, I just released an awesome new program and I’m looking for partners to get the word out … I’ll pay you x% of every sale!”
A few years back I changed the way I do my partnerships and adopted a “flat fee” joint venture model, where I promote the heck out of my partners but I also make sure I’m compensated well for my efforts.
A big benefit of this model is I save myself hundreds of hours every year not doing calls that aren’t the right fit by sending people first to a page that lays out exactly how I do my joint ventures: what’s included, the criteria for how I choose my partners, and the investment required for us to do something together.
If they’re on board with that, they can book a call with me right from that page.
If they’re not cool with it, they don’t book the call and we’ve all saved ourselves a lot of time.
