If you’re in danger of drowning …

by | Mar 4, 2020 | Blog

I was once on vacation somewhere warm and came across a scary scene on the beach:

A drunk college kid was swimming out into the ocean while he was being egged on by a group of his friends on the shore.

The waves were crazy and powerful on that day, so it probably wasn’t a great idea.

After awhile, it became apparent to everyone on the beach that the guy was in trouble. No matter how hard he struggled, he was getting further and further away and was in very real danger of drowning.

A lifeguard raced into the water to save the guy and then, for some inexplicable reason (my guess is he wanted to impress the girls in the group) one of the party animal’s friends decided that he was going to swim out to give the trained lifeguard a hand with the rescue.

There was just one little problem: the friend wasn’t a great swimmer either.

But he kept going and going, and now suddenly two people were in trouble.

The good news is another lifeguard arrived to help save both of them, so nobody died.

The whole scene reminds me of what I see every day in the coaching world. Coaches are drowning while trying to get their businesses going, and they choose to get help from people who can’t “swim” (in this case, don’t know what to do to get clients).

Since I’m really killing this swimming metaphor, I might as well keep going.

If you’re drowning in the ocean, you get help from the lifeguard – not your friends or just anyone who offers to help you.

There are plenty of people in the online space who talk a big game, but they can’t back it up and they can’t help you get back to shore.

When you join my Coaching Jungle Mastermind you’ll not only get my help, but also the support of other smart folks in the group.
